Are tarot cards considered Satanism in Christianity?
Honest question, because most say yes, while others (mostly witches) say no. I'm just curious because I use them, but some people pull away when they are used.
Well, yes and no - it depends on how you want to use them.
Tarot cards were created in the mid 15th century for the Milanese court. The consist of a standard pack of Latin suited playing cards with a fifth suit of picture cards. These extra cards took as their theme, not an occult philosophy or magical symbols, but a Christian triumph procession - hence their early name of trionfi, meaning triumphs and from which we get our word trump. It was the invention of tarot that marked the invention of trumps in card games - and that is what they were created for, a family of card games that continues to be played throughout continental Europe to this day.
Contrary to popular myth, the church has never objected to tarot cards per se. In fact, there are instances where the Church had banned playing cards in some regions but specifically excluded tarot from the ban! If some of the cards look mysterious or heretical, it is because we are not looking at them in the context of when and where they were created. For example, The Female Pope is often held up as a reason that they Church objected to tarot (which it didn't). However, if we look at 15th century Italian art, we find that The Female Pope was an established figure in religious art of the time, being used by Christian artists to represent such things as The New Covenant or the Virtue of Faith.
It was not until the end of the 18th century that a Parisian occultist, Antoine Court de Gebelin, picked up the cards and, ignorant of their true origin, invented his own, claiming that they came from Ancient Egypt and had a use for divination. It is for this use that the Church has attacked tarot cards, just as it has attacked the use of tea leaves for divination - without suggesting that anyone should stop drinking tea. As I've mentioned, the games continue to be played in Europe without any opposition from the Church.

The High Priestess tarot card can be seen as representing a wise woman who uses her inner voice and intuition to guide her.
Some of the questions this card poses when it is drawn in a tarot reading are:
* When have you used wisdom to great effect?
* Is there a big decision looming, and how will you make your choice or decision?
* Where do you seek your knowledge from and who turns to you for wise words?
* If you could guarantee a truthful answer to just one question, what would you ask?
This card has these meanings when applied to the following aspects:
Personality
The High Priestess is a pale and serious woman. But she is wise, and from this wisdom comes loving and caring qualities, and the ability to allow her intuition to be her guide in making decisions. When this card appears it is signalling a time when intuition can be trusted. Seek guidance from within, trust your inner voice and be open to dreams and the imagination.
Family and friends
If there are conflicts and disputes, then this card indicates that you should stand back and be patient. No action is required now, because there are other things that need to unfold. The best way to tackle family issues now is inaction and calm.
Health
Again, inaction is the way forward with health issues. At the most, look to alternative wisdom and medicine. Health will improve with patient waiting. Let nature take its course at this time. Prescription medicine may make things worse, or throw up new side effects.
Love Life
In relation to someone's love life this card urges listening to your inner voice for clues as to what to do. Your intuition will let you know what to do and what to say. The High Priestess Tarot card can represent a natural development, letting what is already there flower and develop naturally.
Career
For career aspects, again, patient inaction will allow natural development.
The High Priestess card represents wisdom, knowledge, intuition and education. She is the guardian of secrets and can suggest that a secret will be revealed soon. Key advice for the recipient of this card is listen to your intuition. Rely on your feelings rather than what you perceive to be the situation from the outside. The High Priestess sees things that are hidden, so rely on feelings rather than what others suggest is for the highest good.
Also, this card is telling you to pay attention to your dreams because a facet of you is trying to make itself known. More dramatically, your life is about to change with this card.
It shows the need for you to search for and recognise the spiritual side of any issue concerning you at the moment. You will do well to trust your intuition. You may need to research an issue carefully and properly, or seek advice, or wait for the arrival of more information before making a decision or taking any action.
