Breaking a contract I made with myself- Witches or Wiccans please?

I recently visited a Witch who did my tarot cards. To cut a long story short, I made an invisible contract with myself when I was younger to avoid getting involved or being noticed or picked or reaching any of my potential and I now want to break it.
I bought red ink, I have parchment and I have written that I wish to break the contract. I have to burn the parchment with a black candle on the new moon.
Is there a particular time I should do this? I know its as affective as I make it, I have to believe in what Im saying, but I wonder whether there is a time which has a particular affinity with breaking curses and new beginnings?
Thankyou for your advice, I would love to hear from Witches or Wiccans on how to conduct this so it will be successful.

Are you planning on working with divinity for this? Or just your own personal energy? If you were planing on working with a God or Goddess, perhaps choose to work with one that embodies wisdom, and protection. It's foolish to continue with a pact, or promise that is detrimental to personal growth. Perhaps work with Athena, the Goddess of wisdom in the Greek pantheon. Ask for her to aid you in breaking this pact with yourself, and ask her for the wisdom to choose your words carefully when you promise yourself something. (I am not chastising you, but Athena smiles on people who can look at their mistakes objectively with an almost cruelly blunt mind.) Looking it as cutting away something holding you back and not talking of it with emotion, but rather considering it a superfluous twig, will give you that much more conviction to succeed. Remember that if you choose to work with Athena, she is very practical and will not be impressed with "frills" a candle, paper, ink, a well cast circle and her assistance are all that you need. So hold off on any pomp and circumstance.
