Star Spangled War

On September 13, 1814, a man named Francis Scott Key saw Fort McHenry in Maryland be attacked by the British Army during the War of 1812 known known as the Battle of Baltimore. He noticed an American flag broken and torn still flying after a long day of battle and the smoke dissipated. Inspired by the sight of the flag is still flying, wrote a poem entitled "The Defense of Fort McHenry. Additions of American patriotism, his poem was then set to music and became a song, this song was renamed "The Star-Spangled Banner" officially became the national anthem the United States in 1931. U.S. President Woodrow Wilson by decree the name of the song the national anthem of the United States in 1916.

This event is historically relevant to the United States because it has a sense of unity and pride for the American people. It became a tradition of "The Star-Spangled Banner "was sung at the beginning of major sporting events as games. Included in this tradition is the practice of removing his hat and face the American flag while the anthem is played or sung.
