Were just required to create an academic poster and yet you have no idea what you need to do? You have an idea what a poster is and what you want your poster to be about. But how do you know if the academic poster you have in mind is going to be an effective one?
The five most important characteristics of an effective academic poster are enumerated and explained below.
1. Well researched. Research is the most important thing to do before making any academic poster. You have to make sure you will be including only correct information. Stick to the facts. Avoid using inaccurate statements unless it is required in your presentation.
2. Effectively organized. Readers should clearly see and understand the flow of your poster. Try to create a good balance of the graphics and text used. You can start by selecting a few illustrations that would best summarize your poster then try to use as few words as possible to explain how your illustration relates to your whole presentation.
3. Self-explanatory. Think about who your target audience is. Make sure the content, graphics and explanations are appropriate for your audience.
4. Attractively presented. Create a poster layout that is appropriate to the topic of the poster. After creating the initial layout, choose a color that will allow your text and graphics to stand out. Keep your background pleasing to the eye and not too loud or flashy. You are creating an academic poster so remember to still keep your presentation professional and make sure you keep it in line to the purpose of the poster.
5. Printing. Make sure you select a quality poster printing company that will be able to print your academic poster in the quality you need. Some presentations may use graphics with more detail which would require a higher quality of printer and, hence, a higher printing cost.
