There are definitely jobs for 13 year olds to make money. Especially during the busy holiday season.
Are you 13 years old or younger? Do you want to earn a little extra cash? Maybe save some money for Christmas shopping?
Here are some job ideas for 13 year olds to start making some extra cash. Just remember to check with your parents first before knocking on any doors!
1) Holiday Bazaars
Every year our church, St. Bridget's, holds a Christmas bazaar as a fund raiser. And many other churches and schools do as well. One of my favorite Christmas bazaars is at the Old Stillwater Courthouse with it's Victorian Christmas theme.
If your 13 year old is crafty or creative, she can "rent" space at a local holiday bazaar and then keep the profits of all the things she sells. Remember, profits = sales - expenses. For example, expenses would include the rent paid and costs to make the item.
Kids can earn several hundred dollars at holiday bazaars by selling unique, homemade crafts.
Some of the items you can make that sell well at Holiday bazaars include:
homemade soaps & body scrubs
funky beaded jewelry
scrapbook greeting cards
homemade cookies and brownies (low-fat or sugar free are especially popular)
dream catchers
handmade Christmas ornaments or decorations
scented candles
grapevine wreaths or garland
knitted doggie sweaters
homemade doggie treats
"gifts in a jar" or jarred hot chocolate or cookie mixes
I may even head to a bazaar with my homemade "Manure Tea Bags" to feed your indoor plants! Another idea is some trendy laptop covers or "skins:"
You can also set up your own free online store to sell your homemade goods. Check out www.etsy.com
2) Holiday Baby-sitting
Parents are scrambling to find babysitters for the many Christmas and New Years parties, office parties, and special nights out. Be sure to let your neighbors know you are willing and able to babysit - even at the last minute.
During December, you could also offer "drop in" or overnight baby-sitting on Saturdays so parents can do their Christmas shopping. The more kids you babysit at one time - the more money you make. Maybe even double or triple your usual babysitting fees.
3) Holiday Cleaning
Christmas and Thanksgiving usually means lots of company for some of your neighbors. Ask your parents and relatives if they know of any one who might hire you to help get the house cleaned and ready for company.
Or you could offer to put up holiday decorations or hang Christmas lights outside. There is actually a lawn service in my town that puts up and stores Christmas lights for its customers.
4) Baking for Bucks
One of my least favorite jobs is meal planning. How about offering busy parents a home-cooked meal either made at their home or delivered just in time for dinner? This would be especially appreciated around the hectic holiday season.
When you're advertising or talking to customers, stress that it's cheaper than take-out and healthier too!
5) Holiday Shopping
Everyone is pressed for time during the holidays. You could offer a personal shopping service, either at the mall or online, to buy and wrap Christmas gifts for busy customers. Imagine the fun of getting paid to go shopping!
These are some fun jobs for 13 year olds that might not even seem like work at all! So get started right away and be rolling in the dough come New Year's Eve.
