Movie title? Man disguised as monk asks someone to pass the salt and blows his cover?

I rememeber this scene from a movie from when I was a kid:
A man is pretending to be a monk in a silent monestary. At dinner he blows his cover when he asks for somebody to pass the salt.
Anybody know the title?

It's 1850, and newly-ordained orthodox rabbi Avram Belinski sets out on horseback from Philadelphia to San Francisco, knowing only that California's "somewhere near New York." Actually, the talkative rabbi (Gene Wilder) accidentally causes the monk (Vincent Schiavelli I think) to break silence when he thanks him for passing the salt and the monk says, "You're welcome." After the shock passes, all of them start laughing!

I LOVE this movie and have watched it no less than 100 times over the years. My family has always quoted from this. I should suggest it more at Y!A Movies.
