Why did they change the actor for Rachel on Batman Beginning/ and Dark Knight?

I alwas tried to ask this question but whenever i'm on i post other and answer other stu amd i just forget about it.

Why did they change the actor for Rachel on Batman Beginning/ and Dark Knight
Because Katie Holmes seems a better maybe because she was the actor in the first one.

The official answer was that Katie Holmes had scheduling conflicts between Mad Money and The Dark Knight. This doesn't make sense because if you had a choice which film would you do?

WB and Christopher Nolan say that they offered her the role and Katie declined. The reality is that Katie was largely criticized for her part in Batman Begins. There was also the Tom issues. She had already had Suri. But Tom was reportedly very controlling of her career. He flew out to the set of Mad Money with her and their were numerous reports that the director was not happy with him. That Tom was to present on the set and to controlling of Katie.

The general opinion is that the studio wanted to keep away from "Tomkat" and that they allowed her to try and save face by saying "scheduling conflicts".
