What are some good references (books, etc.) to get started in creating graphic novels?

So far I've been looking into the Wizard How to Draw series, Vanishing Point by Jason Cheeseman-Meyer, and How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way by Stan Lee and John Buscema. Any suggestions/comments/recommendations on what I should get or what I'm thinking of getting already?

If you're really interested in making a comic, you should definitely buy or take a trip to the library to take out Scott McCloud's "Making Comics." It's a great book and sequel to his "Understanding Comics" which not only goes over some of the tools and techniques of making comics, but deconstructs the concepts, theories, standards and practices of visual storytelling.

Best part is, the book about comics is a comic book itself!

The Silver Surfer Comic Book seriesÂ’ main character, the Silver Surfer, first made its appearance in 1996 in the Fantastic Four Comic Book issue number 48. Jack Kirby and the infamous Stan Lee created the Silver Surfer Comic Book.

The Silver Surfer is known as Jack Kirby from the world Zenn-La with alliances such as the afore mention Fantastic Four, Silver Savage, Sentinel of the Spaceways, Cosmic Wanderer, Silverado, Chrome Dome, and Skyrider. The Fantastic Four issue #48 lead into what is known as the Galactus Trilogy.

His main superpower is from the Power Cosmic giving him the ability of Superhuman strength and stamina, virtual invulnerable, Immortality, Energy manipulation and absorption, Molecular transmutation, Control over the Fundamental Forces, a Degree of cosmic awareness, travel at trans-light speeds, Mind control, Time manipulation and super Healing.

Rodd was an astronomer for his home world Zenn-La, and to save it from destruction by Galactus, Rodd bargained himself to serve as the servant of the Galactic Being in return for a portion of his powers. During this negotiation, he gained his powers, silver looks, and the surfboard styled vehicle.

Rodd then began roaming the known universe in search of planets his master could consume, which leads him to Earth. There he meets the Fantastic Four and they remind him of whom he is and help to defeat Galactus. This causes the surfer to be thrown into exile forever.

The success of the Silver Surfer gave Stan Lee the idea to continue his existence and brought him back in 1987 to 1998 when the Surfer explores Earth. The Surfer made one more appearance in 2003 to 2004. The current movie Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer gives the impression that it will delve into the Galactus Trilogy.

The Silver Surfer Comic Book has a rich history and really began in the 1960s when Stan Lee and Kirby were known for creating three-part concept for making comic book series.

Lee and Kirby would get together brainstorming any ideas they had, and then when Kirby would draw the series, Lee would begin working on the dialog and finally adding them to the scenes.

During the middle of the process for the Silver Surfer Comic Book, Kirby surprised Lee with a Surfboard instead of a ship. Though Lee was skeptical he began being inspired by the Surfboard and added more characterization to it.

Though the Silver Surfer appeared in many of the Fantastic 4 Comic books 1966 to 1968 he debuted in a solo performance in 1967 in the Fantastic Four Issue 5. The original Silver Surfer Comic Book released by itself in 1968.

For the first 17 issues, John Buscema was the artist and then number 18 and the final issue was by Kirby. The first 7 had the Tales of the Watcher, which were sold as backup stories, and 72 pages in length and only sold for 12 cents a copy while the other comics sold for 25 cents a piece.

The Silver Surfer Comic Book is about a man who, though Noble, has fallen from grace and has to be returned to his former self. The series was known as some of LeeÂ’s best and most thought provoking yet, and readers could feel the creatorÂ’s hearts and souls poured into each issue.

Though the series was a huge success at the time, it was soon canceled and attempts to bring it back never did justice to the original character.
