What is the most powerful weapon in fiction?
besides the death star and the infinity gauntlet
and explain what it is
I can't remember the name of it, and the Wikipedia doesn't go into any sort of detail about it, but in the Arcot Wade and Morey Supersaga Invaders of the Infinite by John W. Campbell Jr. our heroes win by discovering a new form of matter created out of light --lux and relux.
I know this doesn't SOUND like a powerful weapon but Campbell, both as a writer and an editor, pretty much codified the rules of Modern SF, including Mecha, and even in his early space operas he took his ideas and worked them thoroughly.
Yes I know the Death Star and the Infinity Gauntlet are powerful. Brian Herbert is doing a series of novels about something called the Web which is also powerful, but Campbell provided a prototype which in the Arcot Wade and Morey and Aarn Munro stories might be crudely written, however are still very strong and powerful.

It may sound odd but this is really quite common in any American household or any household in the world. Just try to remember when you were much younger and your mother was having the hundredth discussion with your father about selling, donating or anything just to let go of a particular car in your garage. The Infiniti engine costs too much to maintain she'd say. You're replacing every little part of that car. The parts are hard to find, new parts are expensive, and on and on. I sympathize with that since I still have one of those in my garage and my husband still does not want to sell it. We shell out around several hundred dollars every couple of months because another part or so will need to be replaced. The car is 6 years old. It's not easy to find specific parts and true to form with the law of supply and demand the rarer it is (or in this case older) the more costly it is.
I think for most people this is more a sentimental issue than if the decisions we have for keeping a car is practical. Consumer reports do say that once a car hits above the 6th year mark the engine parts start to wither and fade. The Infinity engine in my garage is no different. It does not matter that my husband baby's that car. It's a fact of life that at around the 6th year mark engines have given their base price a run for its money. Even the Hyundai engine of my sister's favorite metallic sky blue vehicle is bit by bit being replaced and the mechanic now knows my sister's number by heart. My husband's Infiniti engine is sentimental because it is the kind of vehicle he had always dreamed of owning: Something big, sturdy and fierce looking with an even bolder 6 cylinder Infiniti engine. I also love riding in it; however, I'm a practical person and if once one part is replaced I have nightmares about what other part will die next and when it just steals the fun.
A family friend suggested that we try having the whole engine replaced and my eyes almost popped out. They took me to the computer and opened several sites up just to illustrate that had I done that earlier it would ultimately have saved me a lot of money. Buying a used engine definitely gives you more peace of mind than replacing parts one after the other every time something breaks down. I liked the idea that before the engine is shipped to you it goes through stringent tests and checking processes. My used Infiniti engine's each and every part would have been evaluated by a qualified mechanic that viewed the performance of the machine not just by its part but as a whole. And with the one year standard warranty most companies provide I could have slept more soundly. I'll have to talk to my sister about her Hyundai Engine, so she can sleep more soundly, too.
Hyundai engine have a great reputation for lasting well above the 100,000 suggested mileage usage. Contact an online Hyundai engine dealer and you can see that they do several tests to ensure that they are selling a quality engine. My sister should be able to still save her pocket book if she takes advantage of this grand idea.
