How can an animal be purebred if another breed is present on their pedigree? (Quarter horse with Secretariat)?

I know an AQHA Stallion that has Secretariat (Thoroughbred) on his pedigree....how can that be? I will admit I am a science idiot, so layman's explanation is all that is necessary. Thank you!!!

The AQHA allows for what's called an "Appendix Quarter Horse." In order to allow new blood into the breed and to prevent inbreeding with the same horses repeatedly, the AQHA allows some horses to be bred with other breeds, but the resulting horses are called appendix quarter horses. In order to earn the right to breed with a different breed, a quarter horse has to earn a certain amount of points in AQHA competition. In turn, an appendix quarter horse can earn enough points to breed again with a different breed... so you can end up with a horse that's labeled a quarter horse, but is in fact, mostly different breeds.

Also, the original quarter horses grew out of the Thoroughbred breed, so all quarter horses are related to thoroughbreds one way or the other. In turn, the thoroughbred breed grew out of the arabian breed. So if you go back far enough, you'll find that every quarter horse is actually related to one of the foundation Arabian sires that created the thoroughbred breed.

I first heard about Mr. Ali on a plane from London to Saint Louis, a few years back. I was traveling from Poland back to Los Angeles, changing planes in a few places. It was on that plane that I met some Englishman who, as he claimed, was a professional punter. After a few beers, he confessed that all I needed to be as successful as he was information in some book. He even mentioned the book, but all I was able to remember was only its author's name: Mr. Ali.

At that time I was working for a gaming company in Beverly Hills. It was just a few months later that during the company's Christmas party I met some young Asian lady who was making her living betting on horses. I asked her if she knew the book by Mr. Ali. "Yes," was the answer. It turned out that she was using a variation of Mr. Ali's strategy.

Understandably enough that piqued my curiosity, but it was not until a few years later that I did a more thorough investigation of the book and the strategy it presents. I found it easily on the Internet. I read it carefully and while I am hardly a punter, its ideas made a lot of sense to me. After some more research, it became apparent to me that this was perhaps the best method of betting on horse races available on the Internet and so I recommended it to the vistors of my site. One of them, rather skeptical though highly intelligent a fellow contacted me about it by email. We exchanged a few messages about it and yet it still took him a few more weeks before he finally decided to give this ebook a try. Literally only a week later, I got another email from him telling me some really good news: the ebook strategy had made him some good profits. I was really surprised that it was possible to start making money with this strategy so fast, but it would be rather silly of me to question what he was saying as he had hardly any interest to lie to me.

The strategy offered by the ebook seems rather common sense and ordinary and yet it can certainly be highly profitable. It focuses on placing bets on superfavorites that is the horses most favored by the public. Hardly a surprising strategy, isn't it? But that is not all. The crux of the strategy and the reason it can be so effective lies in the number of filters it uses to pinpoint the most favorable betting conditions under which one should place bets on the horses identified as superfavorites. What qualifies as a superfavorite is elaborated as well. Altogether, this creates a pretty safe, intelligent strategy that boasts a high winning rate, which for this reason could be very good to those with modest means as they can start with only a small sum and grow it relatively fast. Some variations of this strategy are also discussed and they seem to work well too, although their winning rates are not as high. They compensate this by allowing more betting action.

The ebook is quite suitable for beginners, although I wish the author spent a bit more time discussing how to use the Internet for betting on horses with this particular strategy. If you are new to betting on horse races, this could be an excellent introduction to this subject that offers a sound strategy likely to keep your winnings grow.

Moreover, unlike with poker and some other forms of online gambling, the most recent modification to the US gambling law does not restrict placing online bets on horse races in any way. So Uncle Sam really wants you or at least he will not turn you down.
