The point is there's a desperate need of the religious to make us feel like there's something wrong with us, and until we feel guilty for nothing at all, like they do, we are wrong; and they'll never stop trying to tell us just how wrong we are.

Yup.
They want to paint every human motivation with the bad brush. Everything we do or want is wrong, so we're automatically damned. Hungry? Your desire for food is selfish. Horny? Your lust is sinful and must be repressed.
And now we've got them saying if you don't believe you are bad, you're a liar too. Sheesh, we can't win.
