If you are interested in purchasing comics then you must first look for the nearest comic store in your neighborhood. Reading comic books has been a great pastime for many people as they grew up and some like me are still huge enthusiast on the comic book era. As I grew up I was always interested in all the comic books that where out there. I always believed that I would become a masked avenger like Batman and save my city from crime. Without the comic stores being there to fill in my boredom you never know what I would have been up too.

The stores which were open until late I might add, where a source of getting rid of my boredom and I would spend ours there flipping through various comic books make sure I had filled my head with great dreams before I would go home. Comic stores have provided me with a sanctuary where I could hide and set my worries away. I don’t do much reading of comics nowadays since I actually moved on to novels and real life stuff, but I still pick up a comic from time to time never forgetting my superhero friends that helped me out during my childhood. In fact I can truly say that they saved me which means they actually where heroes in my book.

Comic stores are a dime a dozen nowadays but there are a few in every neighborhood and they are the best place to go look for your favorite comic book, whether it’s DC  Comics own Batman, Robin and off course Superman or it is Marvel comic the Avengers, Spiderman, X-Men and many more. No matter what superhero my comic store was where I would find them.

You have to line up distributors of course. There is no point publishing anything if kids can't get their hands on it.

My suggestion would be to do something like what the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles guys did and design a series put your money into a package you can schtup around to various comics shops. When You have that you should be able to figure out how much income you are going to get from it, and what kind of deals you can offer people.

We've seen the headlines: Hulk vs Superman, Hulk vs Wolverine, Hulk vs the Thing, and, basically, Hulk vs other superheroes. Classics that piqued our imagination. Who's the strongest? Who's the best fighter? Who'll win?

Time and time again the Hulk has proven that he's more than a match to most, if not all, super heroes. But how does he fair against gods? Lucky for us, there are two gods in the Marvel comic book universe, one from Olympus and one from Asgard, who walk among mortals and they've scuffled with the Hulk on a few occassions.

Let's take a look at some of these matchups between Marvel powerhouses:

HULK vs HERCULES

Only a handful of characters symbolize strength. Throughout history, no one is more famous for strength than the Greek demigod, Hercules. His feats of strength, the 12 Labors of Hercules, are passed down from generations to generations. In the Marvel universe, however, Hercules, an immortal from Mt. Olympus, has had to contend with other powerful beings to earn the title of "The Strongest". And he doesn't always win.

Indeed, the Hulk and Hercules have met in various issues with mixed outcomes:

- AVENGERS #267. Comic book fans first saw the Hulk and Hercules battle it out in Avengers No 267. In this issue, Hercules and the Avengers were trapped in limbo by their nemesis, Kang. Upon their first arrival, the Incredible Hulk came out of nowhere to attack the Avengers. Hercules stepped up and delivered a single knockout blow to the Hulk. Puzzled over the quick outcome, after examining the unconscious giant, the Avengers concluded that the Hulk was under a trance which rendered him less of his usual threat. Perhaps Avengers 267 should not count as an encounter, but it nevertheless gave comic book fans a sneak peek of future fights featuring Hulk vs Hercules.

- HULK #316. Many Hulk and Avengers fan still remember the big clash in Hulk No 316 when the Banner-less, rampaging Hulk took on four Avengers, namely Iron Man, Wonder Man, Namor and Hercules. - HULK-HERCULES UNLEASHED. If you're a Hulk fan, you'll thoroughly enjoy this one. After the superheroes went missing because of Onslaught, Hercules tried to convince the Hulk, the lone survivor, in helping to find the other heroes. Hulk was not in the mood and a brawl ensued. Hercules was beaten so bad that he would have died had Zeus not intervened to save him.

Hulk and Hercules have scuffled in a handful of other issues. The latest being HULK VS. HERCULES: WHEN TITANS CLASH published on April 2008.

How To Read Digital Comic Books on iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone

The iPad is perfect for reading your digital comics. It beats out the Kindle and other ebook readers because, unless you're reading a graphic novel in B & W, then you want to see your comics in color. Duh!

You have lots of choices for downloading comic books to your iPad. You can download them individually or you can get a subscription to one of the comic book publishers like Marvel Comics for .99 a month or .88 for a year's subscription. The drawback with this type of membership is it locks you into just Marvel comics and you probably want to also read manga and graphic novels.

Another way to go is to buy your comics through the Kindle store, or Barne's and Noble Nook, or the iTunes store. If you go that route you'll need to get the App for those stores for you iPad.

Why Most People Sell Comic Books After Reading

What do you usually do with your old comic books when you are done reading them? Many of us usually just leave them lying around to wither into old age and then we probably trash it. Other people will probably return them into their original paper seal and keep them stored as collectables and probably sell them later when they are worth more than they are now. If you sell comic books you would be surprised at how much money and demand that is out there.

Most people who sell comic books know the value that comes from owning old comic books, having been maintained like an old vintage car. What you need to do with the comic is put into a clear plastic sleeve, or you can even sell it to someone who is interested. The comic books that sell the most are usually the first series kind and they usually go for a lot of money compared to the new ones that is why you will find that it is collectors who buy such comics. The hard covered comic’s books also have value.

There are also places where you can go and see these comic books, especially at the conventions they usually have people bringing their comic books and showing them to everyone as well as some people selling them. The internet is another good place to find people that are willing to sell comic books or if you are looking for rare comics you can try an auction where you can look for the comic you want. Be sure to leave your comic in good condition and makes sure it’s in mint condition if you intend to sell it one day.

A Basic Guide To Comic Book Collecting

Even with the emergence of popular entertainment outlets such as the internet and satellite television, comic books have maintained an impressive market share of consumer spending. There simply is no replacement for the unique way a comic can present a story and engage its readers. Because of this, comic book collecting has also grown in recent years with a new generation of readers enjoying this rewarding hobby.

For collectors who are just beginning, there are a couple of different approaches to take to the hobby. Some people are simply fans of a particular hero or publisher. They purchase comics for their own entertainment and don't concern themselves much with the after-market value of the publication. Other collectors concentrate on acquiring limited edition or rare comics for the sake of achieving a return on their investment. This form of collecting usually requires an advanced knowledge of the market as well as the necessary funds to make large purchases.

There are five distinct eras of comic book memorabilia. The Platinum Age represent the oldest time period, dating between the 1800's and 1937. The Golden Age covers the years of 1938 to 1955. Silver Age comic books are dated between 1956 and 1969, and the Bronze Age occurred between 1970 and 1979. The Modern Age includes everything that was produced from 1980 through today. Each time period is unique and distinctive in the way the publications were written, produced, and distributed. Obviously the older periods offer the most valuable items, but there are still plenty of rare and limited comics to be found in the Modern Age.

Today's collectors will find a multitude of outlets to help them add to their collection. The internet alone has increased the accessibility of hard-to-find comics to collectors all over the world. eBay, Craigslist, and online comic book stores make finding exactly what you want as simple as clicking a mouse. While these outlets are probably the most popular markets for collectors, there is still plenty of demand for local comic book shows and stores. Of course newsstands and bookstores remain the best source for the latest publications. Ideally, the savvy collector will be comfortable with using all of the outlets mentioned here. You simply never know where you might uncover the next hidden gem to add to your collection.

Beyond these basics of comic book collecting, there are other intricacies to learn for the new collector. For instance, collectable comic books are often graded to measure their condition in a uniform manner. This is done by a professional third-party company which will seal the comic in a protective sleeve to preserve its integrity. New collectors will need to become familiar with this process if they plan on investing in rare comics. Other essential tools include comic price guides and market sales reports which help to asses the value of a particular piece.

Collecting comic books has been an entertaining hobby for many decades, and it does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon. With the continued influx of new characters and publishers, there will always be a solid foundation of new adventures to satisfy the fans. Perhaps the best part about this hobby is that there is always something new to learn along the way. By joining the legion of comic collectors around the world, you are guaranteed to have a rewarding hobby for years to come.

Question by Grown Man: Can you recommend a good program to catalog and price my comic book collection?
The time has come to liquidate my comic book collection. Unfortunately, my ex-wife has my old catalog and will not return it; an old Lotus Approach program anyways. Well I am upgrading to wife 3.0 and need cash for the wedding. So I am selling the comics. Problem is I haven't collected in like 7 years and have a slew of books (do ask how many, ' cause I don't know). I want to sell them all, but need to catalog and price them before sale.

I am already strapped for cash, so price is an issue.

Does anyone know a good program or website that can help me to catalog and price my comic books?
I already know about the programs in MS Excel and Access, but I was looking for a lil bit more detailed program. The program I had from many moons again had a listing for cover price and current FMV; which tabulated profit/loss. Of course this program connected to the internet for the FMV.

Microsoft WORKS should do the task for you. If it is not on your computer it is not an expensive program.
It will do a data base and or spreadsheet.

It comes bundled with a lot of computers so take a look in yout Program to see if you have it. (listed as: Microsoft Works)

Iconic Objects In Comics

There are many objects found between the covers of comics that symbolize various characters, storylines or what have you. Some are objects of power, like the M'Kraan Crystal or the Infinity Gauntlet. Others are power sources for their wielders like Green Lantern's lamp or ring, or Quasar's Quantum Bands. And others are simply weapons like Thor's hammer or the captain America shield.

Each one of these, and countless others, has been solidified in the world of comics as iconic objects. Go to any specialty store carrying comic memorabilia and you're likely to find statues and lithographs featuring these famed items for display in your home, or wherever you like. By displaying one of these pristine replicas you show your loyalty to and fondness of the characters or stories that produced them.

In a comic panel, or in a scene in a movie (like the captain America shield in Iron Man recently), a single momentary placement of one of these objects can be all-telling and all-inspiring. It can give a clue to where a story is headed or who might show up, or it can simply pique the curiosity of the reader or viewer. This has never been more apparent than in recent years with Avengers Disassembled at Marvel Comics and the whole Crises events at DC Comics. In the former, the objects of each character (Hawkeye's quiver, Cap's shield, Thor's hammer and so forth) symbolized the death of Marvel's greatest team. In the latter, DC last year released a poster hinting at the destruction to come. In it, the Atom's belt could be seen, and GL's ring and other objects were of import as well.

These objects have become more than just tools to further story plots, or to display powers. They have become icons themselves. See the red cape with the yellow "S" on it waving majestically in the air and you know exactly what the message is. See that same cape on a pole, tattered, and the message is, again, abundantly clear. The same can be said for the use of any of these objects in the right context.

These iconic objects symbolize the essence of each character within the four color world. Thor was thought dead, but when his hammer fell to earth in a recent issue of Fantastic Four, it symbolized his return, and a return to power for one of Marvel’s icons. It was a powerful scene and plot line that played into the over-arching story throughout the Marvel Universe at the time.

Where these objects are there is a story waiting to be told. And that makes them every bit as iconic as the stories they are used to tell.

My Comic Book Store

I had my own comic book store by the age of 7 years. Those were the days before television and the many other distractions that surround us today. My comic book store consisted of over 200 comics, which I read and reread and then when I had enough of re-reads I would get on my bicycle and visit friends to do a comic swap. These were exciting times for we loved our few comic book heroes and when the next edition was at the news store we would often be their waiting to buy them as they arrived.

There was of course Superman and his amazing powers and he had Xray vision which made him seem almost mystical and add to that his ability to fly and lift trains and intercept even aircraft in flight had me locked in as a believer and follower However I felt he lost a bit of class when Lois Lane arrived on the scene.

Superman was the start of the hero era of comics for me and then came Captain Marvel and he was great but then Captain Marvel Junior got into the act and his hero status was reduced in my seven-year-old eyes. Best of all though was the Phantom, 'the ghost who walks',with his faithful wolf dog Devil who was his buddy in battles. But then I felt let down when the Phantom's girlfriend appeared. Why would a powerful hero like the Phantom need a girlfriend I asked myself?

There were so many of these wonderful adventure comic magazines in those days and in that year of my childhood 1948 they cost about sixpence (five cents). Today I believe a phantom comic, in good condition, can be sold for over 00! If only I had known my 200 comic books which cost less than would now fetch about 0000. I could have retired a lot earlier than I did.

The comics in those days became a secondary school reader for me, I had no great interest in books but the graphic art with the words attached in the circle above the character captured my imagination like no book could do and in fact I believe my reading skills were mainly developed and honed through comics - I later became a Teacher and I could spell anything without a miss. Of course I did read some required books but only on instruction never by choice.

Other comics in my comic book store were Mandrake and the Disney comics of the day and I loved them too. Mandrake the magician with his faithful sidekick Lothar could do anything with a wave of his hand however he fell from grace a little with because he too had a girl friend called Nardia. However even if my heroes failed somewhat by having a girl in their team I got used to it and kept buying them and reading them and trading with friends and eventually changed my mind completely about girls when I reached the age of 14.

I miss that simple era where the comics were not filled with extreme violence and graphic sex. They were simply great adventures with a powerful hero fighting evil and winning. I loved that about my comic book store and maybe today's children are missing something with the iPods and tele and sensational special effect movies which capture their interest where everything is imagined for them. With the comics you had to imagine the voice and create the action in your mind from the graphics.

But this is an old guy talking and some might think it's an old grump talking but I loved my childhood and my comic book store and now, in my latter years, that era of the comic book holds such wonderful memories of a simple and safer world protected by the great comic book heroes.

Rare and Valuable Comic Books

The average price of a comic book ranges from .00 to .99. However, over time their value can increase tenfold. Comic are becoming more popular as each year passes and people are buying more comics each time they go to a comic book store. The demand for comics is making them a hot commodity, and rare comics are becoming very valuable. Comic enthusiasts are paying top dollar for first edition and rare comics that date back to as late as the 1950’s.

In Dallas, Texas, at the Heritage Auction Galleries, two very rare and valuable comics are going up for auction. The two comics being auctioned off are Batman #1 and Marvel Mystery Comics #9. A man who has been collecting comics since he was a young kid is auctioning them off, and they are expected to bring in up to 0,000 profit for both.

The first issue of Batman comics, Batman #1, came out in the spring of 1940. It became so popular that the Batman series which originally was supposed to be published quarterly, turned into a bi-monthly production in the 1950’s. It then became a monthly series and has stayed that way. Batman, the character, first appeared in another series of comic books called the Detective Comics in issue #27. The Batman series is still being published today and the latest issue is #686.

Marvel Mystery comic books series started production in the 1930’s. Marvel Mystery Comics #9 is about the Human Torch versus the Sub-Mariner. The Human Torch and the Sub-Mariner are two of the most popular comic’s character during the Golden Age of Comic books. The Sub-Mariner was considered to be Marvel comic’s first mutant character because he is a mix of the human species and the Atlanteans. He lives on both land and sea and has superhuman strength. The Human Torch can engulf his entire body on fire and can also fly.

What makes comic books valuable are the characters. During the Golden Age of Comics, these three characters were some of the most popular. The issue number, seen as # on the comic, also raises value of the comic. Batman #1 is so valuable because it’s his first appearance in his own series. The Batman character had been introduced in different series and gained popularity among readers, which is why his series was created. Marvel Mystery Comics #9 is valuable because something important happened. It was the dual between two well known comic characters. There are different factors that make a comic book valuable, and these two comic books have it.

Question by enfantcoma: What does it mean a comic book has no price or seal of approval, just the issue number?
I have seen multiple copies of the same comic book where one will simply have the issue number -- no price, no month, no cc, no "approved by the comics code authority", just a number.
What does this mean?
The books in reference were some old issues of the Incredible Hulk.
