Dell, which earlier engaged in direct sales has abandoned that model due to falling sales. Its deal with the posh retailer John Lewis to sell the Adamo XPS laptop is an attempt to tap into high end market for Christmas.
COMPUTER MANUFACTURER Dell has signed a deal with John Lewis, high street retailer to exclusively sell its range of ultra thin Adamo XPS laptops. John Lewis is expecting quite a rush for Christmas for the Adamo XPS laptop. It would also be selling Dell Studio 15 laptop and Inspiron models in UK.
The deal between Dell and John Lewis has come as a big surprise for the market, even though the former has undertaken such deals earlier with retailers Tesco and DSGi.
There is talk that Dell, which was earlier engaged in direct sales has abandoned that model due to falling sales. The deals with retailers are a way to both promote its products more freely and increase sales. Its deal with the posh retailer John Lewis, for the high end Adamo XPS laptop, is obvious attempt to reach out to a more exclusive British market.
The Adamo XPS laptop is a 9.9 mm thick laptop, easily the world's slimmest laptop. Costing around £1750, it has an Intel Core 2 Duo ULV processor which can run at 1.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD storage. The Dell product has a 13.4-inch HD WLED screen, Bluetooth, a two megapixel webcam and much more. Dell is also offering Windows 7 Home with the laptop.
A 90 days broadband connection and software support are given free of cost.
