Which is better? Set up a website on paid or free hosting?
I'm going to put up a web comic soon. But I'm in a dilemma on which is better? To set it up on a free hosting site to start with, or look for an affordable paid web hosting and start the comic from there?
Oh, and please give me the pros and cons between the two. Thanks in advance!
Free pros: Free
Free cons: unreliable, no support, forced ads, no real domain name, you can't build your brand, limited design and functionality, and worst of all, after you've spent a couple of months building your site, you'll start getting links to it, and start to rank on Google and other search engines (which means your site will start to come up in search results, and bring you a lot of visitors who otherwise wouldn't heard of it). But since you're not really the owner of the domain name or the website you could loose it at any time, and all your hard work would be for nothing.
Paid cons: Price (not free)
Paid pros: reliable, support, a real domain name, a lot more resources, unlimited website design and functionality, brandability...
I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/
Powweb is on a 50% sale - $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.
Godaddy doesn't offer a free domain, but you can get one for $2.19 if you're buying hosting from them, plus they also have a 20% sale at the moment. (They don't advertise it anywhere on their site). Use their coupon code at http://www.hosttell.com/

When it comes to determining your comic book's real value, a comic book is only worth what someone is willing to pay you for it. And, there are two huge things most savvy comic buyers use to help them decide what they'll pay for the comics you're selling. They are:
#1: Comic Book Price Guides. The two of the most popular comic book price guides buyers refer to are Overstreet and Wizard. Wizard puts out a monthly magazine with up to date comic prices. However, Overstreet is the most recognized price guide and is the resource that most comic dealers and most comic buyers use. So you should use Overstreet yourself in determining your comic's potential value. You can pick up or browse through a copy in most any bookstore.
While price guides are helpful, don't start counting your money yet because you need to check out...
#2: eBay. Why? Because the listed prices in these price guides doesn't mean you'll be able to go and sell your comics for those prices! To help you determine what they will sell for, you should visit eBay to find out actual selling prices for the comics you have. When you visit, you will notice that comics often sell there for a lot less than the Overstreet or Wizard guide prices.
Here's what all this means to you: The price range of what your comic is selling for on ebay and what is in the price guide (what someone might pay for it) is the real measuring stick of what your comics are really worth. For example, if a specific Iron Man comic has been selling at eBay for $17 and the price guide value is $90, guess what the real value is? The real value is somewhere between $17 - $90....and frankly, a lot closer to $17 than to $90.
Why just $17?
It's simple. Because a comic is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. That is it's real value.
