What is the approximate distance from your eyes to a book you are reading?

How do you figure this out? It's a question from my physics book but i don't see anything showing how to do it.

Also these ones:

Estimate the average mass of a person's leg

Estimate the length of a full-size school bus.

is there some sort of background information we're supposed to have and then some formula necessary?

It says ESTIMATE. Just use your daily experiences to make a rough guess.

How far away from your eyes do you hold your textbook? Personally, I hold it at about an arm's length. So 2 to 3 feet.

Legs make up roughly half your body. So if you weigh 140lbs, your legs weigh about 70lbs, and one leg weighs about 35 pounds.

A school bus is about as big as 4 cars, and according to the Internet, a car weighs about 4,000lbs, so a school bus would be about 16,000lbs

There are many helpful tips on writing a book. However, the most important one to remember is to write from your heart. Your writing should reflect either a great passion for or great knowledge of your topic. Otherwise your writing will likely be bland and not enjoyable to read.

You should first know if your writing is to be fiction or nonfiction, funny or serious, or perhaps a combination. Most fictional stories as you likely know, will have both funny and serious aspects.

Do not be afraid to use your own style. You may be surprised what some people enjoy reading. As long as you offer the truth, you should be alright. Now, offer the truth, does not mean that you can only write about things that have happened to you. It means rather that you should try to keep the emotions and actions matching the situation. Sort of like cooking, you will want the flavor or your writing to blend nicely and compliment the rest of the creation.

Be your self. Try to imagine how you would tell a certain story to a friend, or a group of people who do not know you at all. Give a basic idea, and then build on it. Use the type of language that you normally do. Do try to understand other person's perspective, but always offer it from your own understanding and position.

A picture is worth a thousand words! So, unless you are writing a children's story book with lots of pictures, you will want to use as many descriptive words as possible. You will want your reader to get lost in your story. You want them to feel like they are actually there. They should be left wanting more, and if your lucky, not wanting to put your book down.

Do not worry about sitting down and writing the whole book at once. This seldom happens. Has this ever happened? Write down one thought or idea at a time. Make sure that if you have a very involved or elaborate topic to discuss, that you have enough time, space and quiet to get it all down without interruption.

Writing a book is a labor of love. This will without a doubt be a time consuming process. Be prepared. Stick with it, and keep on writing, eventually your book will come to life.
