Why does a black cat bring bad luck when it crosses your path?

Because, I have a black cat & so far Ive had nothing but good luck since i got him.

Back in the day of witches and such it was widely known that witches used black cats as their familiars. As familiars they had a magical bond with the witch being that the witch could use them for scouting, so when a Black Cat crossed a person's path it was believed that they were the target of the witch that controlled the cat, as the witch was scouting for their victim to perform their magic.

Another variation of this is the old belief that cats have magical powers, (possibly from Ancient Egypt), and with Black Magic being the bad/evil form of magic that would make a black cat crossing your path being black magic intersecting with your life, thus evil coming your way!

According to the various beliefs, you owning and caring for the black cat would be good luck since you are being kind towards the evil thus why would the evil purposely want to hurt you?!? NEVER BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU!
