Philippines is one of the many countries in Asia known for their collection of rare and wild flowers, particularly flowers which are known for their scents. Although not very popular in the floral market, unlike roses, tulips, and orchids, these flowers are known for their other uses, particularly the Arabian Jasmine. Sampaguita flowers are very popular in the Philippines, where they are strung into necklaces and sold in the streets of Manila. They are usually given to tourists, new graduates, and competition winners either as traditional welcome offerings or as honorary symbols for their achievements. The garlands are also given to saints, whether in churches or altars at home.
The one feature that made the flower popular is its distinct scent. Aside from the Philippines, the sampaguita flower Philippines is also known across the world, particularly in Chinese culinary art. The Arabian Jasmine is processed and used as the main ingredient in jasmine tea. In Bengali, the flower is known as "beli" and is extremely popular for its sweet fragrance. Other than the sampaguita, the Ylang-Ylang have also been a very popular flower in the Philippines. Originating from the Tagalog word of "ilan-ilan" or "rare", the Ylang-Ylang flower Philippines possesses a fragrant scent unlike any other.
In fact its essential oils are quite useful in aromatherapy, and are believed to relieve high blood pressure and normalize sebum secretion for skin problems. Similar to the Ylang-Ylang flower, the Lady of the Night is also popular for exuding sweet scents. The only difference is that the Lady of the Night only exude's its sweet scent at night. The Lady of the Night, or more popularity known in the Philippines as the Dama De Noche flower Philippines, is famous for its unusual biorhythm which made it the subject of legend. Its flowers bloom at night and exude a very sweet scent. Another feature that made the Dama De Noche popular is its appearance.
